1- Irrelevant logo or none at all:
Many small businesses either have no logo or
they create one using the same fonts and centered
text that everyone with Word uses. This can create
an unprofessional and amateurish look that could
dive away potential customers.
-
2- Do-it-yourself design:
Just because I have a hammer it does not
make me a carpenter. The same goes for small
businesses with computers and “Adobe” installed.
Design software is a tool, when used by a
professional designer can help small businesses
stand out and get the message to the recipient in
a clear concise way.

3- Lack a professional/current web presence:
Having a professional designer create even a simple web site is
well worth the investment because it shows your customers who
you are and why they should come to you. People don’t use their
phones much anymore (well to make calls) but they do surf.
4- Bad e-mail address:
Small businesses sometime have
myname2855@comcast.net We all
know that myname@mywebsite.com,
1-looks more professional,
2-builds brand recognition, and
3- provides the business web site to
more potential customers.
5- Low resolution images for print:
Most web images are too small to print. They don’t
have the resolution required and end up looking
blurry and pixilated (lots of little boxes). Let say
you have a nice catalog to show a potential customer
a product and they can’t see it…
6- Lack of custom illustration:
With the onslaught of digital cameras many
small business have forgotten the appeal,
pride and captivating power of a well thought
out and executed illustration. Not only can
they differentiate you from your competitors
but can also be used to create promotional
or for profit merchandise. (The Coca-Cola Santa
for example.)
